PORT HURON, Mich. – With two high-caliber games Saturday and one on Sunday, Jan. 5-6 will be hockey weekend in the Blue Water Area. Port Huron’s McMorran Arena will be full of star power on Saturday as the Detroit Red Wings Alumni take on former NHL Stars in the first stop of the Pro Stars Series Tour.
The Port Huron Icehawks will conclude the day of hockey action when they take on the Bloomington Prairie Thunder at 7:30 p.m. They are set for a second showdown with the team on Sunday at 3 p.m.
The Pro Stars game starts on Saturday at 2 p.m. with a national anthem performance by Karen Newman, voice of the Red Wings. Hall of Famer and Stanley Cup winner Ted Lindsay will also be on hand to kick off the event. Both will sign autographs during the first intermission.
Tickets for the Pro Star game are $10 each and can be purchased at the Port Huron Icehawks office, 325 Main Street, Port Huron or online at www.redwingalumni.com. Patrons who purchase a ticket for the Icehawks game can receive a ticket to the alumni game for just $5. Icehawks season ticket holders can also purchase a Pro Star ticket for only $5.

Having former great Red Wings and other NHL starts strap on their skates at McMorran Arena is great for hockey at all levels in the Blue Water area.”
The following players are scheduled to skate with the Red Wing Alumni team: Doug Brown, Dino Ciccarelli, Dennis Hextall, Eddie Mio, Mickey Redmond, Paul Ysebaert, Joe Kocur, Shawn Burr, John Ogrodnick and George Bowman.
Scheduled to appear for the NHL Pro Stars team are: Pat Ribble (Toronto Maple Leafs), Chris Tamer (Pittsburgh Penquins), Craig Wolanin (Colorado Avalanche), Paul Mackinnon (Washington Capitals), Dave Roberts (Vancouver Canucks), John Gruden (Ottawa Senators), Tom Williams (Los Angeles Kings), Wayne Presley (Chicago Blackhawks), Bill Muckalt (Ottawa Senators), Ken Houston (Atlanta Flames), Darren Banks (Boston Bruins), Kraig Nienhuis (Boston Bruins), Dan Newman (New York Rangers) and Jason Muzzatti (Calgary Flames).
A number of promotions are scheduled during the game. The Port Huron Rebels girl hockey team will be introduced and a youth hockey scrimmage will take place. Red Wings Alumni merchandise will also be on sale.
The event is one of five games the Detroit Red Wing Alumni Association will hold throughout the state of Michigan. The proceeds benefit Orchards Children’s Services, Diabetes Care, Port Huron Minor Hockey, Port Huron High School, Check the Spirit Sports, Port Huron Rebels Hockey and other Red Wings Alumni Charities.
Icehawks season ticket holders are invited to a special reception immediately following the alumni game. The free reception will be held at the McMorran Auditorium and include a performance by Karen Newman and appearances by a number of the alumni and pro stars players. Food will also be provided courtesy of Cici’s Pizza, Jimmy Johns and Pepsi. An Icehawks season ticket holder ID card must be presented for entry.
