Russo comes to Port Huron after five seasons in Europe. A decorated junior goalie, he continues to hold numerous records in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, where he played four seasons with the Acadie-Bathurst Titan from 2000-04 and racked up an overall record of 110-77-7.
He holds the Titan franchise record for the most career wins with 110 and is ranked second in the QMJHL in the same category. He also held the league record for most career shutouts with 13, until it was broken in 2008 by goalie Ryan Mior, who played in Port Huron last season.
In the 2002-03 season, he was named Goaltender of the Year for both the QMJHL and the Canadian Hockey League after he went 38-18-3 with a 2.41 goals against average and a .917 save percentage. He is also listed in the Titan record books for best GAA in a single season (2.41).
After four seasons in the QMJHL, the goaltender turned professional in Europe and played with numerous teams in Italy and France from 2004-2009. Last season, he played with Tours in France.
During his junior career, Russo twice attended camps with National Hockey League teams. He took the ice at the Montreal Canadiens Rookie Development Camp in 2001 and was also invited to the Anaheim Mighty Ducks Training Camp in 2003. The native of Montreal, Quebec continues to catch the attention of high level clubs. He is slated to attend training camp with the American Hockey League Worcester Sharks, an AAA affiliate of the San Jose Sharks, this fall.
